This pillow was recommended over all other pillows for those who suffer from neck pain, TMD related jaw pain and snoring. It is the best design for a pillow that I have seen. We measure a person's shoulder size to determine which pillow size fits them correctly. It is excellent for both back sleeping and side sleeping, the only positions for healthy sleep.
It is for control of bad breath and It works great!
It has no alcohol, so no burning mouth feeling and is as effective as Listerine in preventing and improving gingivitis. It also is non staining to teeth.

If you wish to maximize your athletic performance and minimize your risk of concussion (MTBI) and dental injuries, you need a Maher appliance.
Concussion occurs from the three following events:

1. Direct blow to the head.
2. Blow to the body, causing a whiplash acceleration/deceleration to the head and brain.
3. Direct blow to the lower jaw, the classic knockout punch in boxing. Direct blows to the jaw are common in many sports, which also can injure, fracture or knock out teeth. |
Concussion causes long term brain injury in some individuals, especially boxers and professional football players. We also know that the younger the athlete, the higher the risk of concussion and that the best cure for a concussion is to rest the body and the brain, both from physical and mental strain following MTBI.
I am currently the only dentist certified in Iowa to deliver the Maher series of mouthguards, which I believe to be the best athletic mouthguard on the market today and one that has been shown to decrease the incidence of "concussion" also known as "MTBI" (minor traumatic brain injury) which is a major problem in contact sports such as football. Soccer players also have high risk for MTBI. Although basketball players can suffer MTBI, their risk of dental injury is high and wearing a Maher appliance provides the best protection available.
Any athlete can wear a Maher appliance. There are three different appliance designs available based on the sport you play. Under Armour has recently released a "performance enhancing" mouthguard. I believe this appliance is inferior to the Maher series as it does not stabilize the lower jaw bone in it's optimum position, thereby reducing the risk of concussion. It's construction and durability is also inferior to the Maher appliances.
The Maher appliances are unique because they stabilize and optimize the position of the lower jawbone when the teeth are clenched, helping to decrease impact trauma to the brain during concussive events. Your specific jaw position is determined through dental examination, examination of your temporomandibular joints and x-rays if needed.

Up until age 3, combating the finger habit is up to you, the parent. We are here for any help or advice you may need. After age 3, Dr. Jeff will have a talk with your child to see if they are ready to stop a finger or pacifier habit. If they are ready to give up the habit we will have good success. If not, the most helpful reminder for your child is a product called "Mavala Stop!" It is a clear fingernail polish with a very bitter taste. Remember, this won't stop finger sucking, it will just remind your child when they put a finger in their mouth without thinking about it. There was a finger habit book called "My Thumb and I" which is excellent for ages 5+ which may be found used on the internet.
Electric Toothbrushes
If you have gingivitis, gum disease, receding gums and root exposure, heavy tartar buildup or tooth decay, you need a good rechargeable toothbrush. These brushes are profoundly better at cleaning and massaging your teeth and gums, and if you floss once a day your dental cleanings will forever be a pleasure, not a nightmare and your dental health will be profoundly improved. We would like all our patients to use a good rechargeable brush so we price ours reasonably. Pick one up at our office or a local store, just get one. If you would like to know which is best for you we would be happy to make a recommendation. We often have promotional rebates in the office for units purchased here. You can't go wrong with either one of these brushes! They also make great Christmas gifts!
1. Sonicare Professional FlexCare+ rechargeable toothbrush kit. If you have gum recession and root exposure, we recommend only the Sonicare. Our office meticulously tracks any areas of gum recession at each dental check up and cleaning. We have found that when we switch a patient from hand brushing or any other mechanical brush we see a decrease in gum recession and root exposure in almost every patient in the order of 1 to 2 mm improvement over the course of 12 to 24 months. We know of no clinical studies verifying this, we just see it happen consistently. 2. Oral-B Professional Care 8850 rechargeable toothbrush kit. This is a great kit for a family as it is the only electric toothbrush kit that comes with 2 hand held motors. We recommend this brush when there more than one bathroom will be using the electric brush, such as a parent's bathroom and kid's bathroom. One charging base comes with the kit to charge both hand motors which require charging once every 2-3 weeks. Great for mom and dad and the kids.
3. Oral-B Triumph Professional Care 9950 rechargeable toothbrush kit. This kit comes with a wireless "Smart Guide" display that tells you if you are applying too much pressure with your brush and gives you a visible timer for brushing. If you like some "bells an whistles" this brush is really cool and gets the job done!
